Diana Miconi est professeure adjointe au département de psychopédagogie et d’andragogie dans le domaine du développement, de la santé et du bien-être des adolescents. Ses intérêts de recherche se concentrent principalement sur le champ de la psychologie du développement, éducative et culturelle. Le développement humain, de l’adolescence jusqu’au début de l’âge adulte, est au cœur de ses recherches, qui se sont largement structurées autour d’une collaboration étroite avec les écoles secondaires, les cégeps et les universités, en examinant l'adaptation socio-émotionnelle des adolescents et des jeunes adultes à partir d’un cadre développemental et socio-écologique.

Psychologue clinicienne de formation, elle est membre de l’Ordre des psychologues du Québec et de l’Ordine degli Psicologi del Veneto en Italie. Elle est née et a fait ses études en Italie, où elle a obtenu son doctorat de recherche en psychologie du développement. Dans le cadre de son doctorat, elle a documenté la manière dont les variables familiales/sociales, cognitives/individuelles et culturelles interagissaient pour expliquer une adaptation positive des jeunes immigrants, en essayant de surmonter la perspective déficitaire souvent adoptée dans les recherches antérieures sur le terrain en faveur d'une approche de développement positif des jeunes. 

Après son doctorat, elle s’est tournée vers les enjeux de polarisation sociale et de détresse psychologique pouvant mener à la radicalisation violente des jeunes. Elle a reçu une bourse postdoctorale du FRQSC avec un projet novateur visant à appliquer un cadre de développement positif des jeunes (Positive Youth Development, PYD) à l'étude de la vulnérabilité et de la résilience à la radicalisation violente chez les jeunes fréquentant les collèges et universités de la province de Québec.

Elle fait partie d’un réseau international de recherche dans le domaine du développement positif des jeunes, qui implique des chercheurs de plus de 20 pays à travers le monde et vise à examiner les ressources personnelles et contextuelles qui sont disponibles et accessibles pour les jeunes dans différents contextes nationaux. L'objectif ultime du projet est d'informer les programmes et les politiques pour promouvoir le développement positif et la contribution des jeunes à la société.

Ses projets actuels conjuguent la recherche et l’intervention et peuvent être regroupés en deux axes principaux interconnectés: 1) la résilience des adolescents et des familles vulnérables (immigrantes, réfugiées, en attente de statut); et 2) la vulnérabilité et la résilience à la détresse psychologique et à la radicalisation violente (RV) chez les jeunes. Plus récemment, elle s’est penchée sur les conséquences négatives de la pandémie de la COVID-19 sur l’éducation et le bien-être des jeunes, qui sont de plus en plus documentées dans la littérature internationale.
